Coeur d'Alene Christmas Lights 2026: Dates, Cruises, and Where to Stay

Updated 2026-11-05. By your local hosts at Village Collective.
Coeur d'Alene switches on its holiday lights on Friday, November 27, 2026, the night after Thanksgiving. A parade comes down Sherman Avenue at 5 PM, then the crowd gathers on The Coeur d'Alene Resort lawn for carols, a countdown, fireworks, and the moment more than 1.5 million lights come on across downtown.
The lights stay up through the holidays, and the Journey to the North Pole cruises run from November 26, 2026 through January 3, 2027. Here is how to plan the night, and where to stay so it ends at a warm house instead of a long drive home.
The lighting ceremony: Friday, November 27
Lighting night follows a set schedule. Plan around these times:
- 1 PM: parked cars must be off Sherman Avenue along the parade route.
- 3 PM: Sherman Avenue closes to all traffic from Northwest Boulevard to 8th Street.
- 5 PM: the 34th annual Lighting Ceremony Parade starts at 8th and Sherman and heads west to Government Way and Northwest Boulevard. This year's theme is Santa's Workshop.
- Right after the parade: carols on The Coeur d'Alene Resort lawn, a countdown to fireworks, and the switch that lights up downtown.

The parade and the celebration on the lawn are free. If you want a guaranteed spot, The Coeur d'Alene Resort sells Premier Viewing on its Lakeview Terrace from 5 to 7 PM for $45 plus tax and fees, with hot cocoa and coffee included. It is standing room only, and tickets are nonrefundable.
Cars can't leave Sherman Avenue until the crowd clears, so park a few blocks off the route and plan to walk in.
Journey to the North Pole cruises
The signature way to see the lights is from the water. Lake Coeur d'Alene Cruises runs 40-minute trips past the lit shoreline to Santa's floating North Pole, with a 60-foot LED tree, a new 40-foot illuminated sleigh this year, and Santa reading each child's name from the Nice List. Every cruise ends with fireworks.
| Cruise | Dates | Length |
|---|---|---|
| Santa's Sneak Peek Week (25% off) | November 13 to 25, 2026 | 40 minutes |
| Journey to the North Pole | November 26, 2026 to January 3, 2027 | 40 minutes |
| Lighting Ceremony cruise | Friday, November 27, 2026 (sold out) | 90 minutes |
| New Year's Eve family and dessert cruises | December 31, 2026 | Varies |
Regular cruises leave at 4:30, 5:30, 6:30, and 7:30 PM. Fares listed for the 2026 season are $30.50 for adults, $29.50 for seniors 55 and up, $15 for ages 6 to 12, and free for kids 5 and under, though every passenger needs a ticket. Cruises sell out, so book yours before you plan anything else.
Holiday check-in is inside the Resort Plaza Shops at 115 S. 2nd Street, not the summer dock. Arrive at least 30 minutes early. The lower decks are heated, the boats have ramp access, and snow alone doesn't cancel a sailing.
Plan the evening
- Book the cruise first, then fit dinner around it. Dinner, a cruise, and a short walk take three to four hours.
- Get downtown 45 to 60 minutes before your cruise to park and walk over.
- Park at McEuen Park, Independence Point, or The Coeur d'Alene Resort garage. Cruises don't validate parking, so pay for the whole evening.
- Dress for the walk, not the boat: a warm coat, hat, gloves, and shoes with grip. Sidewalks near the water can be icy.
- With young kids, an early dinner and the 4:30 or 5:30 cruise keeps bedtime on track.
- You can see plenty for free on foot along the Resort waterfront and Sherman Avenue. The cruise adds the view from the lake and Santa's North Pole.

More holiday events
- My Favorite Things, The Coeur d'Alene Resort's live Christmas show, runs November 27 to December 20, 2026. Shows are Thursdays and Fridays at 7 PM and weekends at 5 PM, and it's best for ages 6 and up.
- New Year's Eve on the lake: family cruises leave at 7:15 and 7:45 PM, and a 10:30 PM dessert cruise watches the downtown fireworks from the water.

Where to stay for the lights
Downtown parking fills up on lighting night and on December weekends. A home with its own garage or driveway, a short drive from the waterfront, keeps the evening easy, and a hot tub makes the cold walk back worth it.
- Riverstone Village Retreat: Two bedrooms in Riverstone Village with two spaces in a secure underground garage, a fireplace, and the Centennial Trail outside the door.
- Mountain View Condo: Two bedrooms in Riverstone with secure garage parking, a king suite, and coffee and restaurants a short walk away.
- Garden House: Three bedrooms with a private hot tub, a game room, and a fenced yard for dogs, about 15 minutes from downtown.
Book direct and you deal with our local team, who reply within about 15 minutes. Cancel 7 or more days before check-in for a 90% refund on stays under 28 nights.
